New Music Friday: Kristen Ford & Jude Love

This week we’re featuring former HellCat, and Music on The Move showcase alum, Kristen Ford, and newcomer Jude Love! These two contrasting summer-ready songs are sure to fuel whatever emotions come your way as it heats up this summer!

Kristen Ford - Here’s To You Kid

Kristen has been having a fantastic year to date! Since recently signing a record deal with famed singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco’s record label, Righteous Babe, as well as going on tour with DiFranco, she has now come out with a new single “Here’s To You Kid.” A fun, upbeat, 80’s pop-brought-back song radiating positivity.

From Ani, “I love this girl so much. her take-no-prisoners approach to singing, playing, living and performing. this new single has a title that encompasses exactly what i wanna say to her right now. i had a total blast working on Kristen’s whole new album and I’m excited the music is finally getting out there.”

From the Label, "Kristen Ford reflects on the making of her newest release “Here’s To You Kid was inspired by Pride month and the energy of Summer. The song is about everyone you wanna give a shout out to, loving yourself for following through and not selling yourself short. It’s about celebrating the small things and moments in life, like a packed dive bar and a disco ball and the beauty we see in each other we often struggle to recognize in ourselves…Ani’s contribution on vocals is a huge part and my favorite element in the song. Ani has killer instincts about how to add elements without it being too perfect and just the right amount of weird and magic sauce. Killer producer.”

Recorded in Nashville at The Cabin studios and at Righteous Babe Studios, the track then traveled to multi GRAMMY winning John Driskell Hopkins, founding member of Zac Brown Band for Mixing at his Brighter Shade Studios. Mastering by, GRAMMY nominated, Piper Payne.

JudeLove - Where We Started

JudeLove gives us a sadgirl summer song with “Where We Started.” A song all about fighting for a relationship where one person is unfortunately in a mental headspace they can’t get out of and the other is growing and changing as time passes. Ultimately putting them both in a vicious cycle.

The self-produced solo write paints a picture of a carnival swing going “round and round, up and down,” with the singer realizing at the end that they can’t help their significant other no matter how hard they try.

The simple production on this song and repetitive nature of the backing track help the listener really hear the lyrics and what JudeLove is saying.
