About Music on the Move Studios

Music on The Move Studios isn’t just a studio. It's a community. We strive to celebrate and empower everyone who welcomes us into their lives.

We felt the need to build a space where women owned the stage. First, we did it with an all-female showcase. Then, we added a music education studio, podcast, and blog!

Through it all, we believe that the ability to paint a picture of exactly who you are with a melody, chords, and lyrics shouldn’t be a luxury. Music must be available to anyone who wants it.

Having an all-female showcase, podcast, blog, and music education studio, has allowed us to provide a one-of-a-kind, unconventional experience for our students & artists.

We invite you to join us!

Showcases:

Our all-female showcases started it all but, did you know they started by accident?

In 2019, our co-founder Erin McLendon was given an opportunity to have a headlining show at Nashville’s historic Exit/In. After the initial excitement wore off, panic set in. As an independent artist, she knew she couldn’t sell as many tickets as she needed to and so, she enlisted the help of her friends Lexi Larsen and Katie Basden to help her fill the 500-cap room. One of Erin’s biggest pet-peeves at a multi-artist show is when first set is over, and the second band has to get ready for their set, the energy dies. So, she decided there would be a house band, and with an all-female lineup, what better way to showcase the female backing musicians of Nashville than with an all-female house band! Thus, the HellCats were born!

However, if you know anything about putting on a full-band show, you know that you have to pay the full band. As an independent artist, Erin had very little budget to work with but, one day it occurred to her how many female-owned small businesses there were in Nashville and maybe, they’d want to showcase their talent as well? They pay a small vendor fee, the HellCats get paid, the artists get paid from the tickets, and voila! A win-win!

While the showcases have taken many forms since its inception in 2019, (the last scheduled showcase at Exit/In was April 2020…we all know how that didn’t go down), but now we are proud to be back in our original format and showcasing the best female talent that Nashville has!

Paradox Jukebox Podcast:

Caitie Thompson joined the Music on The Move family as a HellCat initially in July of 2019. During the first year of Music on The Move Studios, Caitie told Erin that she had always wanted to start a podcast to which Erin said “Go for it!” Caitie had always wanted t give independent and signed artists alike a space to talk about their careers in a more in-depth manner and also provide a space for music industry professionals to share their respective expertise on the ever-expanding ecosystem that is music business.

Since its inception in 2021, Caitie has spoken a variety of artists spanning across all genres, professionals that work in music licensing, studio musicians who’ve played for the likes of The Beach Boys, Emmy Lou Harris, Tom Jones, Sonny and Cher, (the list goes on…), Venue Managers, Concert Directors, Authors, hit songwriters, Mental Health Specialists, and more!

There is truly something for everyone on Paradox Jukebox. Whether you’re a seasoned music business professional, or someone who just wants to learn more, Caitie asks more than just “tell us about yourself,” so that you can get the “REAL real” behind the Music Business.

The Blog:

What started out as a way of expanding our reach with our Virtual Music Education Studio, has turned in to one of our best performing pages! The idea behind the brain child of Underground Music Collective fonder, Gerard Longo, was to create a blog that expanded on our knowledge of music education, the music business, and also to provide yet another platform for the independent artists we love to feature!

With regular features that coincide with our social media such as Music Minute Monday, a quick how-to on music education, New Music Friday, a musical review written by our Head of Content Creation & Administrative Assistant, Kate Radecke, guest features, and think pieces on the music industry, it’s truly a team effort. Providing a wide expanse of knowledge, education, new music, and more, there’s something for everyone!

But don’t take our word for it, dive down the proverbial rabbit hole and find out for yourself!

Virtual Music Education Studio

You’re probably wondering why we’ve stuck to a virtual platform, even after the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. Quite frankly? It’s because Erin & Caitie are both touring musicians and so, even when they are on the road playing shows, they can still provide the best lessons for their students, without skipping a beat!

Staying virtual has also allowed our Studio to reach a National level! With students all over the country, Music on The Move Studios is able to create a larger community, connected by the love of learning music!

You can check out each of their individual teaching styles either by watching some Music Minute Mondays on social media, or head to our Music Education page!
