Music Minute Monday: Easy Guitar Licks Part 2

I love easy guitar/bass licks that you can throw together with a quickness. This next lick/riff that is super easy to play is the intro and a reoccuring theme in “Truth Hurts” by Lizzo. It’s super fun, and you can use two open-chord shapes to help you achieve it.

First, make sure that you know how to play C major, and A minor. The chord shapes are below for you.

This is the C major chord. The “x” over the 6th, or low E string indicates that you should not strum this string when you play the chord.

Finger 1 = Pointer Finger

Finger 2 = Middle Finger

Finger 3 = Ring Finger

This is the A minor chord. The “x” over the 6th, or low E string indicates that you should not strum this string when you play the chord.

Finger 1 = Pointer Finger

Finger 2 = Middle Finger

Finger 3 = Ring Finger

Now that you have the chord shapes down, check out the tablature for the lick.

As you can see, the A string 3rd fret and B string 1st fret are a part of the C major chord. After you play the first four notes, remove your finger from the A string and place it on the G string in the second fret, turning your C major into an A minor.

I like to palm mute this intro while playing on a guitar, and also throw an octave pedal on it when I am playing acoustic. This allows me to fill in the low-end frequencies while I am looping.

I hope you enjoyed this tab, and that you learned something new today! Feel free to reach out to us at info@musiconthemovestudios with any questions!

Happy Practicing!
