Showcase Artist Feature: Caryn Dixon

1) Let’s clarify something first, how do we say your first name properly? Is it more like Karen or Corinne?

Haha it’s like Karen...but I swear I won't call the manager on you. lol

2) You’re a bluegrass/Americana/country singer/songwriter. Which artists or who inspired you to find the sound that makes yours so unique?

I've changed genres a few times over the past decade but am pretty honed into the Country/ Americana genre with a splash of pop. I listen to so many different artists that it is hard to pinpoint my exact influences, but if you gave me a choice of an artist I could listen to forever, it would be a toss-up between Dolly Parton, Tori Amos, and Patty Griffin.

3) Tell us about the 4 songs you’ll be singing at the showcase. What made you decide on those?

Cold Water, It's Not Me It's You, Not Tell Motel, Blue Ridge Mountains. I chose these songs because they are the best examples of the diversity in my range as a vocalist and songwriter. Cold water is a song that I wrote in the early days of starting to travel to Nashville two years ago, and No Tell Motel is one of my newest. The evolution of who I've become over the past two years is pretty fun to watch through my music.

4) Your bio says you started writing songs at 7 years old-what were those songs about? Do you remember?

I wish I could remember. I have a vision of me sitting at the piano singing a melody but I can't for the life of me remember how it went or what the lyrics were.

5) If you could have a dream duet partner who would it be and why?

LAINEY WILSON. I love her energy and I think we'd get along really well and have a blast! I also think our vocal tones would be cool together.

6) Do you have any projects coming out? Or are you going on tour soon? What are the details?

I recently signed onto a pretty big contract and release plan. I am currently releasing two songs a month over the next year. It is a lot of work and I am making more content than I ever could have imagined. I am putting a hold on touring this year, which is weird for me because live performance is my heart, but it is necessary to get my current plan under way. I am blessed to have my sister and brother-in-law here in Nashville. They call themselves, JST FRNDS , and are a husband and wife production duo, helping to create my content and produce my songs. Without them, I don't know how I would be able to keep up with everything that I am doing. I plan to hit the road next year with my upright bass player, Nick Gates, performing across the east and midwest as a duo!

7) Anything else?

I am just thankful for this town and how it has embraced and welcomed me. There are so many talented people here and I am lucky to have the opportunity to be here making friends and doing what I love. Thank you for having me!
