New Music Friday: Amanda McCarthy, Holly Clough, Tai Shan

Vodka - Amanda McCarthy

Amanda McCarthy you would have heard at our last showcase in March at 3rd & Lindsley, as well as during our 2020 series “Women on Fire Wednesdays!” She’s released a cheeky tune called “Vodka” with the opening line telling you everything you need to know. “Vodka makes me talk about the things I shouldn’t.” Something many a human who’s lived through their 20’s can relate to. Amanda performed this at our previous showcase and was an instant crowd favorite. All about oversharing and revealing stories and secrets you never intended to, this upbeat song will have you rethinking your happy hour decisions and possibly reaching for the water before spilling the tea. (I’ll see myself out…)

Rockstar - Holly Clough

“Rockstar” by Holly Clough is one of those songs you turn up at the gym when you need a little extra motivation. All about manifesting your best life, Clough empowers you to speak what you want into existence. “Achieving goals, I’m making headlines  fueled up, living my best life. Everything I want I attract, opportunities keep falling in my lap yeah.” With the vibe of the song, it’s no surprise that the accompanying aesthetic is that of a boxer getting ready to fight.

Jump on In - Tai Shan

Tai Shan is a modern-day nomad, traveling with her family all over the country playing shows and making music. “Jump on In” is about how she and her husband consult a map or their phones to find the nearest river, lake, or body of water they can swim in to get some much-needed respite from being driving all the time. Not many songs like this are inspired by flat tires and road troubles but to our surprise, that’s exactly what happened.

“I started writing this song while coming down from a mountain in Idaho. We were heading to a cabin off-grid in the woods when we got a flat tire. We put on the spare tire and realized it was low on air. I had to walk in front of the car and kick the rocks out of the way so that the tire wouldn't pop. It was sunset, and the sky was streaked with peach-colored clouds. We had an old golf club in the back of the car, so I used it to hit the rocks out of the way while singing, "We're going down to the riverside, gonna strip on down, put our clothes in a pile, and jump on in." We made it back to the road about three hours later in pitch black darkness, got our tire fixed, and continued down the road.”
