De-Mystifying Virtual Music Lessons with Erin & Caitie

“Virtual Learning” almost seems like a buzz word now, doesn’t it? From the necessity of virtual EVERYTHING in 2020 to now getting back to what seems “normal,” Erin and Caitie wanted to take a moment to explain why they’ve kept their studios virtual, and what the benefits of learning music from home can do for you!

  1. Practicality

Erin: Before COVID, I actually had an in-person studio where students would either come to me or, I would travel to them. This created anywhere from a 40-60 minute slot of time extra dedicated to travel either for myself or, for my students. By eliminating the need to travel, not only did I save time to get more work done, but so did my students!

Rehearsing in your own home also creates a dedicated creative space that you associate with practice and lessons. It makes it easier for students to be consistent with their musical practice!

Caitie: Before COVID, I had taken my studio virtual when I moved from Ohio to Nashville. When COVID hit and I went back home, my students were completely unaffected. Now that shutdown is over, I frequently travel with a simple audio setup, and my students still receive high-quality lessons from the comfort of their own homes.

  2. No learning is hindered in the digital space

It’s a common misconception that you can’t learn as much or gain as much over the digital space as you can in person. In fact, Caitie and Erin have proved that teaching virtually is just as effective as in person. With sound equipment advancing as much as it has, it’s actually easier to hear your student/instructor over the digital space now.

Productivity in the lesson actually increases in many cases because with a dedicated personal practice space in your own home, there are fewer outside distractions!

  3. You can learn from anywhere & take them with you!

Sticking with virtual lessons has allowed the studio to grow to a National level so, it doesn’t matter where you are! We’ve even taught students in other countries! Your instructor can also record your virtual lessons to help you practice in between lessons, retain the information that was covered, and also gauge your progress from the work you did, wherever you are!
