Feature Friday: Kate Yeager

“Are you sure we just met?” is what everyone will be saying to Kate Yeager after her performance on June 24th!

Originally from NY, Kate moved to Nashville to find space, a sink in her bathroom, and inspiration for her songwriting. As a fellow music educator, Kate has settled nicely in to the Nashville scene and will be featured on June 24th at our Music on The Move showcase!

First off, what are your pronouns & what genre/vibe will you be bringing to the showcase?

My pronouns she/her. We're gonna have a GOOD TIME. I'm a folk-pop singer-songwriter.

Where are you from originally & what brought you to Nashville?
I grew up in Suffern, NY but I spent the past 8 years in Brooklyn. I came to Nashville because I wanted a driveway and a garden and a sink in my bathroom! All things I didn't have when I was living in New York.

What’s your musical background?

I grew up doing musical theater and playing saxophone in the band in high school, but I started making my own music after I experienced Bruce Springsteen. That is the moment when I wanted to start telling my own stories. I started writing when I was 14 and went to NYU at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.

Do you have a “day job”? (Or two?) What is/are it/they?

I teach songwriting, guitar and voice! But I used to work at a hot yoga studio mopping up peoples sweat and being a charming face and also used to teach baby's music classes in Brooklyn.

How has TikTok/Instagram/social media in general influenced or affected your career, if at all?

Tiktok is a wild place. I just had my first experience with something going viral. My newest song "Are You Sure We Just Met?" just got over 1.2 million views on tiktok and it was so cool to see so many people relate to the song and the story behind it. It honestly felt like a warm hug, which I feel like can be very rare on the internet. More people added the song to their playlists and streamed the song. I just felt very lucky all around.

What upcoming projects/tours do you have?

Announcing a fall tour soon and new music coming in July :)

What are you most excited about for the June 24th show?

The first time I lived in Nashville in 2017, I met Lauren Horbal at pride. Her and her pals really took me in that summer and we've stayed in touch since. So honestly, it just feels pretty full circle that 5 years later, I moved her and we get to play on the same bill. I think that's pretty kismet and special!
