New Music Friday: Addi Barrett & Gracie Calvaneso

Welcome back to another great New Music Friday, y’all! This week we’re thrilled to feature Addi Barrett & Gracie Calvaneso!

Kicking this week’s playlist into high gear is Addi Barrett with her gnarly, country-rock anthem: ‘Metal & Leather’.

It’s no secret that the music industry is still heavily male dominated, and women often have to work twice as hard as their male counterparts for their ideas and accomplishments to be equally revered. Eff the patriarchy, am I right?

Inspired by her time working in a recording studio, feeling underestimated solely based on her gender, Barrett crafted this powerful song.

Packed with hard-hitting drums, robust vocals, and driving guitar; ‘Metal & Leather’ is the perfect song to get yourself amped up and raring to go!

Keeping in tune with the theme of self-empowerment, Gracie Calveneso’s ‘Attention’ rounds off this week’s picks. A self-aware, and reflective look at the destructive pattern of seeking validation outside of oneself, this pop bop is more than just a catchy tune!

According to Gracie, “‘Attention’ is about an internal struggle of wondering why I continuously spent weekend after weekend drinking and seeking attention from guys I didn't care about; especially when I knew I could’ve been home meditating, reading, and reflecting. I knew I wanted to be married and knew I wasn't going to meet my future husband at a bar...so why did I keep looking in places I knew in my heart I would not find him? This song is about an internal struggle of self-worth and sincerely asking myself why I wasn't listening to my intuition. In the process, I avoided shaming myself and I gave myself grace, reminding myself I'm only human.”

Gracie harnessed this mindful approach to songwriting and expanded upon it, developing her skills as a vocal and life coach. Her upcoming program, “Sing From Your Soul”, launching in February, is a 16-week program combining elements of spirituality, singing, and life coaching. Geared specifically toward women, it’s designed to help participants better embrace themselves, feel connected to their intuition, and sing in the most optimal way for their unique voices .
