New Music Friday Playlist: Holiday Edition Part 1

On the first Friday of December Music on the Move shared with me…One updated playlist, 2 holiday songs, and a blog post all for me to read!

Was that cheesy? Yes. Am I sorry? No.

December is already two days in, Mariah Carey has officially thawed out, and her infamous (yet beloved) holiday banger is being blasted on loop through practically every speaker you’re bound to encounter for the next few weeks. As much as we all adore the iconic MC, and her timeless holiday classic, it’s always good to get new music into your rotation! In the spirit of giving, all this month we’re gifting you new holiday tunes each week from some great local Nashville artists!

We launch this month’s festivities with a new spin on a cherished classic! Danika Portz’s cover of ‘O Christmas Tree’ is dripping with warmth and nostalgia. Soft piano accompanies Danika’s angelic vocals, enveloping the listener in warmth and comfort. The simplicity of Portz’s cover almost magically transports you to a cozy living room full of loved ones sitting together by a crackling fireplace, watching as the snow falls gently to the ground outside. Featuring a sweet debut clip from her toddler, Cecilia, and enhanced by the delicate violin strings played by her husband, Ryan, Danika made this song a true family affair!

Maybe it’s the chill of winter air, or the feeling of family and togetherness seemingly smacking us in the face wherever we turn, but many of us have been bit by the notorious “cuffing season” bug at some point in our lives or another during the holiday season. While we may not want them around for the long-haul, it can feel nice to have someone to keep warm with as the nights get colder, and bonus points if you can bring them to family parties to help keep intrusive relatives from asking why you’re still single! (cue eyeroll) Almost a sassy, yet wistful homage to Eartha Kitt’s ‘Santa Baby’, Sabrina Lentini’s ‘Xmas Fling’ is a twangy ode to a single-person’s seasonal musings. Put this tune on and things may just warm up for you quicker than you expected!

What are your favorite holiday songs? Let us know in the comments on this week’s New Music Friday insta post!
