New Music Friday is now “Music on The Move’s Monthly Music Drop”
New Music Friday is getting a makeover! Since switching the model to be on the last Friday of every month, and with “New Music Friday” not exactly being a unique concept, we decided that the name should reflect what it is! New Music Friday is now: Music on The Move’s Monthly Music Drop! At the end of every month we will be reviewing and sharing all of the releases from that month put out by our incredibly talented artists and performers!
This month, we have a plethora of releases from vendor-turned performer, Mary Jennings (No Sass Creations), a current featured performer, Caryn Dixon, assistant-turned-performer Trinity Wiseman, MOTM OG, EvyIvy, and a release from yours truly!
Mary Jennings “Phoenix on Fire”
Written by Jennings and Coley O’Toole, the dark pop song doesn’t disappoint as a classic Mary Jennings tune. The layered production gives the listener a sense of yelling in to the void while processing intense emotions
“When it all burns to the ground, there is always an opportunity to rise from the ashes and be stronger than before.” That is the theme of Mary Jennings' latest release "Phoenix on Fire." While inspired by the story of a popular horror movie villain, Jennings takes the opportunity to show this listener that no grief is too great to rise above.
Trinity Wiseman “Stupid Cupid”
Writers: Trinity Wiseman, Lauren Spring, Nancy Deckant
This song sounds like it belongs at the beginning of a raunchy teen rom-com possibly starring Emma Stone. If you’ve seen Easy A you know exactly what we’re talking about.
“Stupid Cupid is the first single off my new project, “Now That It’s Over”. This song is about being a cynic about love, but ultimately giving it another go because you like someone. It’s hard when you’re unlucky in love, but “Stupid Cupid” is about meeting someone special and giving them a chance.” - Wiseman
EvyIvy “Freedom”
EvyIvy, A Motion Picture from the Music Experience
In a dreamy collab between EvyIvy and the artist known as A Motion Picture From The Music Production, this song takes unexpected yet interesting twists and turns in it’s instrumentation and production.
On finding the lyrical inspiration, EvyIvy says this: “When Jim Ivins told me about Jeff’s compilation album concept and asked me to co-write one of the tracks I was so honored and excited to stretch my top lining skills. When I first heard the instrumental I was immediately drawn in but it took a while for me to really find what I was wanting to say. I remember sitting and listening to it over and over one day as my mind was also racing about all the junk I was currently trying to organize and go thru. Then the word Freedom hit me and the song unfolded from there. It’s all about my desire to be a minimalist in a materialistic world.”
Caryn Dixon “Jaws”
Writers: Caryn Dixon,
Callie Veach-Dixon, Cassandra Rose Veach-Dixon, Gabriel Neal Cummings, Libby Ruth Cummings, Michael Williams
We love a music industry song here at Music on The Move! The verses are foreboding giving you an idea of the mood/feeling that inspired this whole song but then, once you hit the chorus it’s like a sweet southern smile telling the Music Industry to “bless it’s heart.”
Jaws was co-written with Caryn’s family members and friends in the music industry. It’s a song by artists, for artists, to remind them to have confidence in their abilities to navigate the industry, recognize unhealthy situations, and walk away from them if needed.
Erin McLendon “Thieves Don’t Steal”
Writers: Erin McLendon, Lexi Larsen
As the author of this review it is strange to write about myself. However as an artist, you have to take promo where you can get it, even if that means creating it for yourself! So, without further ado, here’s what “Thieves Don’t Steal” is all about.
Lexi and I were in a meeting where one of our friends was giving a pep talk about not letting others steal your joy. She started to get fired up and said “bad things keep happening to you? What are you gonna do, stay down? NO! You wanna know why these things keep happening? The devil doesn’t come for sad people, he wants to make happy people that way. You wanna know why? Because thieves don’t steal from empty houses.” Lexi and I luckily had a write scheduled for not too long after and we both were still thinking about that speech. Thus, “Thieves Don’t Steal” was born. Whether the thief is temptation, addiction, other people trying to knock you down, what have you, this song is a reminder about what happens when you allow it to consume you.
You can listen to all of these songs and more on our Monthly Music Drop playlist on Spotify and hear them live on April 2nd at 3rd & Lindsley when Erin & Caryn take the stage for the Music on The Move all-female showcase!
