April’s Monthly Music Drop

April showers bring May flowers, right? Well if this month is any indication of next month, we’re headed in to a crazy colorful season of music! This month, our Music on The Move community didn’t just drop new music, they showered us with it! Check out the latest releases below!

Lips Speak Louder - Album Drop “Consolation Prize”

Lips Speak Louder's highly-anticipated debut album, Consolation Prize, drops Friday, April 25th. The 10-track collection, produced by Emily Wolfe, delivers a powerful display of the emerging Nashville alt-rock duo – featuring Rachel Brandsness and Angie Lese – and is a brilliant showcase of Lips Speak Louder’s throwback sound, shaped by an array of ‘90s grunge and early 2000s indie rock influences. They have quickly attracted a robust, enthusiastic following and garnered the duo widespread critical acclaim, such as SPIN Magazine’s Amanda Peukert, who said the band, '...sounds like Queens of the Stone Age meets Joan Jett.' The album's focus track Runaway is inspired by classic 2010s rock such as The Gaslight Anthem and The War on Drugs, and is about feeling stuck and wrestling with the idea of change and the unknown vs. settling for the status quo even though it has begun to feel suffocating.  It's about the desire to leave one's comfort zone in the hope and search for something better.

Lauren Horbal Debut Single “Getting Older”

HellCat, member of Fame and Fiction, and now debut solo artist (don’t worry she’s still doing everything else,) Lauren Horbal released her first single this month. A tribute to her late, great friend TayLa Tipton who tragically passed in a car accident. Produced by Mary Jennings, Ryan Youmans, and Horbal herself, the song takes you on the very real emotional rollercoaster of losing someone you love. The chorus, like many Fame & Fiction fans will recognize, has a pop-like essence while also lamenting big feelings, making it the perfect song to sing along to when you need a major emotional release.

Andrea Guess “Once”

In a new take on an already hit song, HellCat Andrea Guess released a cover of “Once.” Originally recorded by Maren Morris, Guess puts her signature bluesy sound on the ballad. Showcasing some major vocals on her part, this is a great example of how a song can be reimagined without changing what made fans fall in love with it initially.

Kate Cosentino “Throw Myself at the Wall”

Throw Myself at the Wall is a critique of corporate culture and an ode to anyone suffering through the state of the job market right now. An angsty, pop anthem about being told no again and again inspired by my experience in the music industry as well as experience stepping into the 9-5 world. Written by Kate Cosentino and Jo Mackenzie and produced by Tony Chetta.

Tracee Perrin & Lauren Anderson “Seasons Change”

Who knew this was the duet we needed to shake off the last of the winter blues? The song highlights pushing through difficult times, while also acknowledging that sometimes you have to embrace the storm in order to get through it. Letting the listener know “if it’s not my season, seasons change.” Their powerful voices blend beautifully in this ballad for anyone needing a reminder that everything will turn out ok in the end.
