In a town that has historically turned its back on the hip hop community, Lord Goldie exists in an authentic space that fuses hip hop, soul, and rock in the underground Nashville music scene. Goldie has been well-versed in cross-genre storytelling since the inception of her debut EP in 2014. This multi-hyphenate raps, writes, produces, and offers creative direction and management services to indie artists.

Hi Goldie!

We are so excited to have as a part of Music on The Move the showcase!!

First off, what are your pronouns & what genre/vibe will you be bringing to the showcase?

I guess you can say she lol. I really don’t care. People say anything from unctie to Ms boy. I put trap in front of everything. So anything from trap jazz to trap metal.

With Nashville being "Music City," have you found that there is a large Rap & Hip Hop population? Or is it a smaller community?

(Nashville has) always been a big rap community. We’ve just been shut up by the majors but it’s cool because we’re slowly but surly growing out of that phase.

Where are you from originally & what brought you to Nashville?

I’m from South Side Nashville. I was raised back and forth from Harding place to 10th Ave South which is also known as Wedgewood-Houston.

What’s your musical background?

I started off writing at 9 years old and played clarinet in my school band around the same time. Joined a rap group in high school called TFP. I graduated from SAE (School of Audio Engineering) a couple years after. I got into some trouble and came home started pursuing my solo career in 2011. Did my first co-write 4 years ago and I’m still here lol.

Do you have a “day job”? (Or two?) What is/are it/they?

Yes. A few lol. I am the hiring, laundry and inspection manager at Southern Domestic Diva Cleaning. A prep cook at a synagogue occasionally. Team captain at Recycle Reinvest which is a foundation that does clean ups in our neighborhoods. A few other side hustles here and there.

You do a lot of collaborating with other artists in your songs. What do you look for when you're picking someone to collaborate with and what does that look like in the Rap/Hip Hop world vs the singer/songwriter world? Or are they not so different?

Well I’m more of a vibe person. If it’s meant for us to work, we will. I collab way more in the songwriter world than the hip hop world. I think it’s mainly because I don’t limit myself to a specific genre so it’s easy to work with more people that way. Rap here in the city definitely needs to be open to collaborating more. It’ll help us elevate fa sho.

Now describe your original/solo sound for us please!

That’s hard lol. I’m inspired by everything cool. It’s like taking a blender and putting Missy, Nirvana, Master P, UGK, Gangsta Boo & Jay-Z in the mix. I don’t put myself in a box.

What upcoming projects/tours do you have?

I’ve got a live album coming out with my band MUJA, a bunch of singles to drop, working towards a tour with Guidance Whiskey and an R&B duo I manage called VīB. Be on the lookout for all our Sunday Funday events coming up in Nashville from cyphers to art experiences at Flash Me. Few more things as well so follow me for the journey.

What are you most excited about for the June 24th show?

New faces and connecting with more people in our LGBTQ community. Can’t wait to put on a helluva show for you guys! Excited to hear music from the other ladies as well.

Come hang with Lord Goldie, along with our other incredible LGBTQ+ artists on June 24th at BentoLiving at Chestnut Hill!
